"I need some hot stuff baby tonight"

Happy 61st Birthday to one of the biggest disco divas of the seventies.
What better night to be looking for some hot stuff than NYE ?

"Have I told you lately..."

"Van The Man" became a father yesterday at the tender age of 64. Apparently the baby boy (George) is the "spitting image of his daddy". That must be one ugly baby!

"Everybody was kung fu fighting"

Band Hero entered our household today. It's so realistic that the kids are already having "musical differences" and fighting like all band siblings (Noel & Liam Gallagher, Ray and Dave Davies, etc). Or perhaps Isaac, Taylor and Zac (Hanson)!

"They say it's your birthday, happy birthday to you"

Happy 63rd birthday Rick (the guy in the hat on the left for the uninitiated). Enjoy one of his band's songs during this festive season.

Do They Know It's Christmas ?

Every self-respecting (?) artist these days releases a Christmas album. But why do they all record the same old hokey songs? Remember the good old days when performers wrote their own yuletide ditty.

Here are ten more interesting Christmas songs listed in no particular order. As Molly would say, "do yourself a favour..."

1. Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight) - Ramones

2. I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake

3. Rockin' Christmas - Ol'55

4. Come On Christmas - Cheap Trick

5. Step Into Christmas - Elton John

6. Another Rock And Roll Christmas - Gary Glitter

7. All Alone On Christmas - Darlene Love

8. Merry Christmas From The Family - Jill Sobule

9. Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade

10. Fairytale Of New York - Kirsty MacColl and the Pogues

Greetings From Clifton Hill, Victoria

Someone named Lawrence Edwards, with an interest in tall ships, also has an interest in the Boss and Grand Prix legends. Can't really see the connections there. Anyhow, he gives an opinion on the best lyric on each of Bruce's albums from Greetings From Asbury Park to The Rising. For Born In The USA he believes "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school" from No Surrender is the standout. I too am a fan of this lyric, so much so that I'm putting on my tombstone.

This occasional blog will consist of musings, reflections and general crap for which I am renowned, all linked together by my fascination with pop culture, in particular contemporary music.
